Starting in July 2022, Microsoft is deprecating Windows Information Protection (WIP). Microsoft will continue to support WIP on supported versions of Windows. New versions of Windows won't include new capabilities for WIP, and it won't be supported in future versions of Windows.

Just to add that its the called the 'on premises unified labelling scanner' ("AIP scanner runs as a service on Windows Server") So I'm presuming that the question means, scan on premise and then upload. Its not very clear Microsoft Purview Information Protection helps you discover, classify, protect, and govern sensitive information wherever it lives or travels. AIP extends the labeling and classification functionality provided by Microsoft Purview with the following capabilities: The unified labeling client (now in maintenance mode) An on-premises scanner The SDK
