Box 1: VM1 only To restore files or folders from the recovery point, go to the virtual machine and choose the desired recovery point. Box 2: A new Azure virtual machine only On the Restore configuration blade, you have two choices: Create a virtual machine Restore disks

If the server VM1 is encrypted with ransomware how can you put the files and folders back on to the same server. i dont see any logic in this.

There is a limit to restore files from the backup taken by Azure Backup without using the Azure backup agent.

You can totally restore the backup to ANY windows machine. You just download the executable/script it generates, run it on any windows machine (as admin), and enter in the password. It then mounts the disk for you.

BOX1: VM1 and VM2 only - ransomware encrypts files, not filesystem, so you can restore to VM1, also. BOX2: VM1 and new Azure VM. You can find explanations on these links: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-arm-restore-vms https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/about-azure-vm-restore

This question in this form is a nonsense and I belive it got updated in real exams meanwhile. Full VM recovery: can be done onto the original VM (overwriting its disk(s)) OR to any NEW VM in Azure ! https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-arm-restore-vms File recovery: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-restore-files-from-vm says it can be done on any existing Azure Windows VM, also on Azure Linux VMs.

CORRECT ANSWER: You can restore the files of VM1 ONLY to VM2. You can't restore back to VM1 yet due to the file system being encrypted from the ransomware. You can restore VM1 server itself to any new VM, not just VM1.

macco0455 correct. Box 1: VM 2 Box 2: A new Azure VM Answers are not great really. As i could do a file recovery from my Windows 10 client for a server 2016 backup. But theres no answer for this, above is the best options Taken from the MS doc for file recovery pre reqs: For Windows OS The following table shows the compatibility between server and computer operating systems. When recovering files, you can't restore files to a previous or future operating system version. For example, you can't restore a file from a Windows Server 2016 VM to Windows Server 2012 or a Windows 8 computer. You can restore files from a VM to the same server operating system, or to the compatible client operating system. Server OS Compatible client OS Windows Server 2019 Windows 10 Windows Server 2016 Windows 10 Windows Server 2012 R2 Windows 8.1 Windows Server 2012 Windows 8 Windows Server 2008 R2 Windows 7

Box1. There is no option "VM2 only" on exam. Box2. There is no just "any new VM" available option on exam. The exam choices have been updated. So, provided answers are not viable

Box 1: VM1 and VM2 only ( the files can only be restored to W2K16 or Win10 this is the pre requisite) Box 2: A new Azure Virtual machine only https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-restore-files-from-vm

This is questionable. what is the benefit of recovering a VM1 file to VM2? we need to recover or restore and there should be total 2 VMs as an end result. If we do file recovery to VM2, we will have only VM2 which does not make sense

but check this: "Keep a separate restore server (Azure VM D2v3 VMs) for file recovery. You can use that only for file recovery and then shut it down when not required. Restoring on the original machine isn't recommended since it will have significant impact on the VM itself."

My understanding is OnPrem servers not hosted by Azure use the agent(MARS). Azure VM's like in the question; backups are agentless. You can restore the files to any internet connected computer by downloading the exe/scripts or restore to a New VM, Existing VM(Will overwrite the disk in the current backed up VM) or just restore the disks to a storage account. I think it's recommended to restore the full VM if its more than 10 GB.
