Exam AZ-304 topic 5 question 58 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's AZ-304
Question #: 58
Topic #: 5
[All AZ-304 Questions]

You have 100 Standard_F2s_v2 Azure virtual machines. Each virtual machine has two network adapters.
You need to increase the network performance of the workloads running on the virtual machines. The solution must meet the following requirements:
✑ The CPU-to-memory ratio must remain the same.
✑ The solution must minimize costs.
What should you do?

  • A. Configure NIC teaming.
  • B. Enable Accelerated Networking.
  • C. Enable RDMA over InfiniBand.
  • D. Install an additional network adapter.
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: B 🗳️
Accelerated networking enables single root I/O virtualization (SR-IOV) to a VM, greatly improving its networking performance. This high-performance path bypasses the host from the datapath, reducing latency, jitter, and CPU utilization, for use with the most demanding network workloads on supported VM types.

B. Enable Accelerated networking because it is supported out of the box. RDMA is not supported in this sku. Fsv2-series VMs feature Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology. ACU: 195 - 210 Premium Storage: Supported Premium Storage caching: Supported Live Migration: Supported Memory Preserving Updates: Supported VM Generation Support: Generation 1 and 2 Accelerated Networking: Supported Ephemeral OS Disks: Supported https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/fsv2-series

"increase the network performance" Answer is B for sure

Selected Answer: B
The given answer is correct. 1. RDMA can only be enabled through infiniband, and infiniband is only supported in H and N series VM. So RDMA is out for this question. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/workloads/hpc/overview 2. accelerated networking(SR-IOV) is supported on most general purpose(B/D) and compute-optimized instance(F).... https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-network/accelerated-networking-overview#supported-operating-systems

Same question happened on AZ-301 and 302 , however , come along different options. This set should be B.

why not NIC teaming. load balance between 2 NICs

I wondered about that. I read that a VM can have 2 NICs on the same vnet, not sure about same subnet https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/multiple-nics But in any case the teaming is done inside the o/s, so it needs mem/cpu and breaks the requirement "The CPU-to-memory ratio must remain the same"

Both RDMA and Accelerated Networking can reduce network latency with minimal CPU resources. But RDMA is only for H series and N series. So B is correct
