I believe this is B) Join Device to AAD instead of enrolling the device in to Intune

So then Enterprise State Roaming wouldn't work on personal devices? In practice, personal devices appear as Registered rather than Joined in Azure AD. Could you explan, please? I think I missed something.

This only works for a AAD joined device. Windows backup is the consumer equivalent to Enterprise State Roaming. Remember this is a AAD feature, it is nothing to do with Intune.

Must be the version, but there is nog version stated in the question?? Enterprise State Roaming is a feature for Windows 10 users that are using a device which is Azure AD device registered (either AAD joined or hybrid joined). User gain the ability to securely synchronize their user and application settings data to the Microsoft cloud.
