The previous versions of File1.docx would be as follows: Version 1: Created at 07:55 Version 2: Created at 08:00 Version 3: Created at 08:15 (includes changes made at 8:05 and 8:12) Version 4: Created at 08:30 (includes changes made at 8:20 and 8:24) The changes made to File1.docx at 08:50 would not be saved until 09:00, so there would be no version created for that time. Therefore, there would be 4 previous versions of File1.docx available to restore at 09:00.

Selected Answer: B
B is definitely the correct one. No doubts here. File History behavior: 1 - File History runs every 15 minutes even if there are no changes. 2 - As there are no changes, nothing will be saved. 3 - File History runs every 15 minutes from the last save, not the time it was activated. The backup runs 4 times and SAVES COPIES 3 times. 08:00 runs manually and saves a new copy of the file Modifications (08:05 and 08:12) 08:15 runs and saves modifications (08:20 and 08:24) 08:30 runs and saves no modifications 08:45 runs but doesn't do anything modification (08:50) “At 08:55, you attempt to restore File1.docx.”

There is a fourth behavior: 4 - If you run a manual save, File History starts timing again from this manual hit.

It seems a previous bug in early versions of W10, when File History was creating new backups every time, even files were not changed. This also happens when using non-NTFS (source)drives where USN is not available. But normally, File History will only create new backups of changed files.

Are you sure? Backups run every 15 minutes, wouldn't it be: 8:00 first Backup (manual and file history) 08:15 second Backup 08:30 Third backup 08:45 Fourth backup

There was no modification after 8:30, so the 8:45 backup didn't create a new file. So the file changed at 8:50 didn't have a backup. The last version available is 8:24 from the THIRD backup. So the answer is 3.

Wrong. They are INCREMENTAL backups, not FULL. So, no change, no backup. There was no change between 8:30 and 8:45. The answer is 3.
