Actual exam question from Microsoft's 70-742
Question #: 25
Topic #: 1
[All 70-742 Questions]

HOTSPOT -
Your network contains an Active Directory domain named contoso.com. The domain contains three servers named Server1, Server2, and Server3 that run
Windows Server 2016.
Server1 has IP Address Management (IPAM) installed. Server2 and Server3 have the DHCP Server role installed and have several DHCP scopes configured.
The IPAM server retrieves data from Server2 and Server3.
A domain user named User1 is a member of the groups shown in the following table.

On Server1, you create a security policy for User1. The policy grants the IPAM DHCP Scope Administrator Role with the \Global access scope to the user.
Which actions can User1 perform? To answer, select the appropriate options in the answer area.
Hot Area:

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer:
User1 is using Server Manager, not IPAM to perform the administration. Therefore, only the "DHCP Administrators" permission on Server2 and the "DHCP Users" permissions on Server3 are applied.
The permissions granted through membership of the "IPAM DHCP Scope Administrator Role" are not applied when the user is not using the IPAM console.

DHCP server role installed on Server & Server3. So if i am not wrong server1 doesn't have any DHCP console to connect with Server2 or Server3. That means server1 actually connecting with server2 and server3 via IPAM. So ans will be both server2 and server3

Not a good question IMHO, because it doesn't specify what tool I'm using in Server Manager. I could be using the DHCP console from the "tools" menu (dhcpmgmt.msc , then the answer would be Server2 only. OR, I could be using the IPAM console from Server Manager, which I believe would make the answer Server2 and Server3.

IPAM is considered as a part of Server Manager, not a separate console like DHCP Console.

So answer is wrong, user has access to both servers using IPAM/ServerManager, they would not have access to Server3 if they used DHCP console. Ipam console image (within Server Manager): https://www.thomasmaurer.ch/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/System-Center-2012-R2-Virtual-Machine-Manager-in-IPAM.png

It should be both servers, 2 and 3, because IPAM is installed on Server 1.

I'm confused here, this exact question appeared on 70-741 but the answer in that question pool was on both servers 2 and 3. But the answer is different here can someone please explain?

User1 controls IPAM through Server Manager, and have IPAM DHCP Scope Administrator Role with the \Global access scope. So as long as working through server1's Server manager, must be able to create/modify on both servers. That's how I understand. Explanation "User1 is using Server Manager, not IPAM to perform the administration." is ??? coz he can use IPAM from Server Manager.
