[All AZ-300 Questions]

You have an Azure virtual machine named VM1 that you use for testing. VM1 is protected by Azure Backup.
You delete VM1.
You need to remove the backup data stored for VM1.
What should you do first?

  • A. Delete the storage account
  • B. Stop the backup
  • C. Modify the backup policy
  • D. Delete the Recovery Services vault
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C 🗳️
Azure Backup provides backup for virtual machines "" created through both the classic deployment model and the Azure Resource Manager deployment model "" by using custom-defined backup policies in a Recovery Services vault.
With the release of backup policy management, customers can manage backup policies and model them to meet their changing requirements from a single window. Customers can edit a policy, associate more virtual machines to a policy, and delete unnecessary policies to meet their compliance requirements.
Incorrect Answers:
D: You can't delete a Recovery Services vault if it is registered to a server and holds backup data. If you try to delete a vault, but can't, the vault is still configured to receive backup data.

Yes, B is correct. Explenation for D is correct also. But you have to stop the backup and have to choose what you want to do with the backup data. Here you choose "delete". When you have soft delete enabled you have to wait for 14 days. If its not enabled you can delete the recovery vault immeditly. hope it helps.

Yes Answer is B. I have tried this several times in the lab. To delete a backup, we have to first stop the backup of the VM and then only it allows to delete the backup.

"C" is correct option. Verified at Lab. Since VM is deleted so you can not stop the backup by going to VM. So you need to go to vault -> Backup policies -> <choose the policy which is applied to your deleted VM> click on it -> Now list of all VMs displayed which are being backup using this policy. Right click on your deleted VM and "stop backup", once you stop backup now "delete backup data" which was greyed out earlier will be available, just click and delete backup data too.

You literally just described answer B. Doesn't matter how you get there you MUST stop the backup in order to proceed with the deletion of the backup data. C is INCORRECT and B is the ONLY correct answer here.

It's C only. Unless you stop the backup, Azure won't allow you to delete the VM1. Now, requirement here is to remove the stored backup data, to do the same need to modify the backup policy.

If we already deleted the VM, isn't it back has already been stopped? And we just need to remove the Recovery Services Vault?

I don't think so, the VM is already deleted which means all the bakcup jobs was stopped. On the other hand, the question is about Backup data store not what is the first step that you have to do to delete VM1.

Answer B is correct. You have to select the vault --> Backup Items --> select Azure VM --> list the deleted VM -- Stop backup --> delete backup data

The answer given C is INCORRECT. The correct answer is B as already pointed out. It is documented here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-manage-vms "There are two ways to delete a VM's backup data: - From the vault item dashboard, select Stop backup and follow the instructions for Stop protection and delete backup data option. Select Stop backup - From the vault item dashboard, select Delete backup data. This option is enabled if you had chosen to Stop protection and retain backup data option during stop VM protection" Thus, first of all you have to stop backup.

Answer is B. You can delete VM but need to stop the other resources assosciated. In this case, backup and if we navigate to Recovery Vault the VM is no longer but backup is still active and as 1st step we need to stop the backup and proceed with other items. The question ask what will be the first action hence Stop Backup is the correct answer

The first step would indeed be to make sure that Soft Delete is not enabled, because if we go ahead and stop the backup it will be stuck in Soft Deleted status for the configured amount of days. However, this is not done via Backup Policies, so the right answer (from the available list) remains B.

definitely B you have to stop the backup before you can remove the backup data. You can modify backup policies all day long but if you don't stop the backup you can't remove the data.

Correct guys. The answer is STOP BACKUP. If the question is updated, after deleting the backup, you'll need to wait 14 days for soft delete purge the data. If you don't want to wait these 14 days, you should first disable soft delete option, then stop the backup, and just then, detele the backup data.

Before you can delete a Backup protection policy, the policy must not have any associated Backup items. Please note deleting VM will not remove the entry at the backup items... So first is to stop the backup.
