Actual exam question from Microsoft's 70-741
Question #: 30
Topic #: 1
[All 70-741 Questions]

You have two Hyper-V hosts named Server1 and Server2 that run Windows Server 2016. Server1 and Server2 are connected to the same network.
On Server1 and Server2, you create an external network switch named Switch1.
You have the virtual machine shown in the following table.

All three virtual machines are connected to Switch1.
You need to prevent applications in VM3 from being able to capture network traffic from VM1 or VM2. The solution must ensure that VM1 retains network connectivity.
What should you do?

  • A. Configure network virtualization for VM1 and VM2.
  • B. Modify the subnet mask of VM1 and VM2.
  • C. On Server2, configure the VLAN ID setting of Switch1.
  • D. On Server2, create an external switch and connect VM3 to the switch.

The answer can not be to D, because even if you add an external switch it will be possible to capture the packet, since it is in the same network. The answer can not be to C, since creating a VLAN does not prevent you from capturing a packet so you need to create ACL rules. The correct answer is A. Network virtualization

Correct Answer is "A" With Network virtualisation, each Vm operates in an isolation from other VMs and infrastructure such as switches and routers. REF: https://www.nakivo.com/blog/pros-cons-hyper-v-network-virtualization/

Both network virtualization and VLAN can be used for this solution. But D, using VLAN, can't perform this solution, since all VMs are connected to Switch1. Therefore A is correct with following condition. The condition is that "VM1 retains network connectivity" must means VM1 can connect to only VM2.

C is incorrect procedure. VLAN IDs are set on adapters. If on C VLAN ID is set on adapter, both A and C are correct.

I have one question. This question says: On Server1 and Server2, you create an external network switch named Switch1. I believe that on each server you create an external network switch named Switch1.

All three virtual machines are connected to Switch1. there for if you create a virtualization network between VM1 and VM2 thats mean you left out VM3. therefore the answer A is correct

Explanation/Reference: A VM could be able to capture traffic if it is connected to another VM via a same virtual switch, no matter network virtualization is enabled or not. Therefore C is incorrect. To segregate Virtual machine one from another, you have to completely move it to another virtual switch.
