SIMULATION -
Click to expand each objective. To connect to the Azure portal, type https://portal.azure.com in the browser address bar.

When you are finished performing all the tasks, click the "˜Next' button.
Note that you cannot return to the lab once you click the "˜Next' button. Scoring occur in the background while you complete the rest of the exam.

Overview -
The following section of the exam is a lab. In this section, you will perform a set of tasks in a live environment. While most functionality will be available to you as it would be in a live environment, some functionality (e.g., copy and paste, ability to navigate to external websites) will not be possible by design.
Scoring is based on the outcome of performing the tasks stated in the lab. In other words, it doesn't matter how you accomplish the task, if you successfully perform it, you will earn credit for that task.
Labs are not timed separately, and this exam may have more than one lab that you must complete. You can use as much time as you would like to complete each lab. But, you should manage your time appropriately to ensure that you are able to complete the lab(s) and all other sections of the exam in the time provided.
Please note that once you submit your work by clicking the Next button within a lab, you will NOT be able to return to the lab.

To start the lab -
You may start the lab by clicking the Next button.
You plan to create several virtual machines in different availability zones, and then to configure the virtual machines to load balanced connections from the internet.
You need to create an IP address resource named ip1006 to support the planned load balancing solution.
The solution must minimize costs.
What should you do from the Azure portal?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: See solution below.
We should create a public IP address.
Step 1: At the top, left corner of the portal, select + Create a resource.
Step 2: Enter public ip address in the Search the Marketplace box. When Public IP address appears in the search results, select it.
Step 3: Under Public IP address, select Create.
Step 4: Enter, or select values for the following settings, under Create public IP address, then select Create:
Name: ip1006
SKU: Basic SKU
IP Version: IPv6
IP address assignment: Dynamic
Subscription: Select appropriate
Resource group: Select appropriate

Basic SKU do not support Availability Zone scenarios. You need to use Standard SKU public IP for Availability Zone scenarios

Agree with Jesch75. Only Standard SKU supports Availability Zones. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-network/virtual-network-public-ip-address#create-a-public-ip-address

You can use Ipv4 or Ipv6, just needs to be Standart.

eventhough its asked to minimize the cost, thats a tricky part. Because the vms are created at different zones, they expect an SLA 99.99%, obviously loadbalancer should also be zone redundunt. Only standard LB gives an SLA 99.99 and No SLA is provided for Basic Load Balancer https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/legal/sla/load-balancer/v1_0/ For creating a Standard LB you must need an IP of Standard SKU that can only be configured with: IP Name - ip1006 IP Version - IPv6 / IPv4(there is no cost difference on v4/v6) SKU – Standard IP address assignment: ONLY STATIC Note: Inbound communication with a Standard SKU resource fails until you create and associate a network security group and explicitly allow the desired inbound traffic.

The key thing to note is IP address assignment: Dynamic For a standard SKU , IP address assignment is Static. So we will have to select Basic SKU

I think it should be standard, it wouldn't make sense to have VMs in AZs but then have the PIP fail when the zone is unavailable.

Standart SKU is required both for LB and Public IP: " Basic SKU: If you are creating a public IP address in a region that supports availability zones, the Availability zone setting is set to None by default. Basic Public IPs do not support Availability zones. Standard SKU: A Standard SKU public IP can be associated to a virtual machine or a load balancer front end. If you're creating a public IP address in a region that supports availability zones, the Availability zone setting is set to Zone-redundant by default. For more information about availability zones, see the Availability zone setting. The standard SKU is required if you associate the address to a Standard load balancer." ref https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-network/virtual-network-public-ip-address

Basic works..but Standard SKU load balancer is recommended for production workloads https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/load-balancer/quickstart-load-balancer-standard-public-portal?toc=%2Fazure%2Fvirtual-network%2Ftoc.json&tabs=option-1-create-load-balancer-standard

I think folks are getting hung up on the VMs availability zones. The Public IP is to be applied to the Load Balancer NOT the VMs. Because the Load Balancer isn't described to be zone redundant, we should go with a BASIC Public IP.

from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-network/virtual-network-public-ip-address SKU Standard: Basic Public IPs do not support Availability zones. Standard SKU: A Standard SKU public IP can be associated to a virtual machine or a load balancer front end IP address assignment: Standard SKU addresses are Static for both IPv4 and IPv6. Also from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-network/ipv6-overview IPv6 Azure resources and bandwidth are charged at the same rates as IPv4. There are no additional or different charges for IPv6.

Public IPs sku should match sku of the load balancer. Since a standard LB is required for availability zones, a standard public IP is required.

IP Name - ip1006 IP Version - IPv6 SKU - Standard PS - BASIC SKU - Do not support Availability Zone scenarios. You need to use Standard SKU public IP for Availability Zone scenarios. Standard SKU - Can be zone-redundant or zonal (can be created zonal and guaranteed in a specific availability zone).
