Suggested Answer:
Box 1: Yes -
To allow one segment to communicate with only one other segment, use the New-InformationBarrierPolicy cmdlet with the SegmentsAllowed parameter.
When you want to block segments from communicating with each other, you define two policies: one for each direction. Each policy blocks communication one way only.

Box 2: No -

YNN - The last option would be blocked as "Allow policies allow one segment to communicate with only certain other segments."

Could we assume HR will be able to just INITIATE a chat with Sales but Sales won't be able to answer it? (because there is no allowed policy from Sales to HR segment)

After searching i found this Information barriers only supports two-way communication and collaboration restrictions. For example, a scenario where Marketing can communicate and collaborate with Day Traders, but Day Traders cannot communicate and collaborate with Marketing isn't supported. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/compliance/information-barriers?view=o365-worldwide So after looking back at the answers that are available... The answers are No to All. There is no bidirectional channel active in any scenario. And the question says that the barriers are activated , so there is no issue here that may denote any other possible state.

Box 1 is only aksing if HR can INITIATE a chat with Sales. From the HR's IB policy, it is definitely YES. While Sales may NOT be able to reply HR messages because of Sales' IB policy. But this is not what the question is asking for. So, Box 1 should be YES.

Not supported not automatically means that it isn´t functional. I think you need to test it to know what really happens. If it is not functional I would agree with you.

YNN. I think it's the third option that's causing confusions. The thing is, although HR is not a blocked segment for Research but the only allowed segment for HR is Sales. By implications, Research is also blocked for HR.

Answer is YNN. See below, IB policies determine communication limits or restrictions. When you define IB policies, you choose from two kinds of policies: - Block policies prevent one segment from communicating with another segment. - Allow policies allow one segment to communicate with ONLY CERTAIN OTHER segments. So, HR can only communicate with Sales but NOT any other segment. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/information-barriers-policies

For the State of all IBs showing Inactive, see below. Set a policy to inactive status. Set a policy to inactive status when you want to make changes to a policy, or when you don't want a policy to be in effect. Since the question said, "You activate the information barrier policies", so we assume all IBs are active now.

I think the answers are correct. Especially for Box 3, the answer will be YES according to below explanation. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/information-barriers-policies#scenario-2-allow-a-segment-to-communicate-only-with-one-other-segment Above link says: When you want to allow a segment to communicate with only one other segment, you define two policies: one for each direction. Each policy allows communication in one direction only. In this example, you'd define two policies: *One policy allows Segment A to communicate with Segment B *A second policy to allow Segment B to communicate with Segment A

YNN - Think about the policies you need as belonging to one of two types: Block policies prevent one group from communicating with another group. Allow policies allow a group to communicate with only specific groups. We assume HR could communicate only with Sales.

I would say that every answer is "YES", because the state of the policies is inactive. :-/

I am under the imperssion that HR is Applied and Allow only IB policy to Communicate with Sales. Hence there can be no collaboration in a channel with Research, as the llater is not in the allowed HR segment
