According to Microsoft, Vista Supports Read AND Write: Can BitLocker encrypt more than just the operating system drive? Yes. In Windows Vista, BitLocker could only encrypt operating system drives. Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 added support for encrypting fixed data drives. Capabilities introduced in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 permit BitLocker to also encrypt removable data drives. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-r2-and-2012/hh831507(v=ws.11)#what-are-the-bitlocker-hardware-and-software-requirements
