Selected Answer: B
When a user receives an email on April 27, 2022 and deletes the email on May 28, 2022, the email will be moved to the user's Deleted Items folder. According to the retention tags configured by the company, items in the Deleted Items folder will be deleted after 30 days. Therefore, the email will expire on May 28, 2022, which is 30 days after it was deleted. Inbox: Delete in 365 days which means the email will retain for 365 days in the Inbox before being deleted. Deleted Items: Delete in 30 days which means the email will be deleted after 30 days of moving to the deleted items folder. So, the email will expire on May 28, 2022 which is 30 days after it was deleted, regardless of how long it was in the Inbox before being deleted.

email will expire on the same day you move it to the trash. Email will be deleted after 30 days by default.

I think the answer as shown (B, May 28th) is correct. Reason: - Item was created on April 27 - While it was in the inbox, the Inbox retention tag of 365 days applied. BUT - When it was moved to deleted items, it would lose the Inbox retention tag, and inherit the Deleted items retention tag of 30 days. - On May 28th - the day it was deleted by the user - it would be 31 days old. - It would therefore be immediately deleted on that day. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/security-and-compliance/messaging-records-management/retention-tags-and-policies Moving items between folders A mailbox item moved from one folder to another inherits any tags applied to the folder to which it's moved. If an item is moved to a folder that doesn't have a tag assigned, the DPT is applied to it.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/security-and-compliance/messaging-records-management/retention-age Items in the Deleted Items folder and items which may have a start and end date, such as calendar items (meetings and appointments) and tasks, are handled differently: Email message / In the Deleted Items folder / The retention age is calculated based on... Date of delivery or creation unless the item was deleted from a folder that does not have an inherited or implicit retention tag.

Examples (from that same URL): If the user... Receives a message in the Inbox on 01/26/2019. Deletes the message on 2/27/2019. The retention tags on folder...Inbox: Delete in 365 days / Deleted Items: Delete in 30 days. The Managed Folder Assistant...Processes the message in the Inbox on 1/26/2019; stamps it with a start date of 01/26/2019 and an expiration date of 01/26/2020. Processes the message again in the Deleted Items folder on 2/27/2019. It recalculates the expiration date based on the same start date (01/26/2019). Because the item is older than 30 days, it is expired immediately. This question is literally the same as this example - only the dates have been changed to protect the innocent! Therefore - answer is correct as shown.
