Actual exam question from Microsoft's 70-743
Question #: 151
Topic #: 1
[All 70-743 Questions]

You have a server named Server1 that runs Windows Server 2016. Server1 is a Hyper-V host that hosts a virtual machine named VM1.
Server1 has three network adapter cards that are connected to a virtual switch named vSwitch1.
You configure NIC Teaming on VM1 as shown in the exhibit.

You need to ensure that VM1 will retain access to the network if a physical network adapter card fails on Server1.
What should you do?

  • A. From Hyper-V Manager on Server1, modify the settings of VM1.
  • B. From Windows PowerShell on Server1, run the Set-VmSwitch cmdlet

Since we have as single virtual switch, we can't use NIC Teaming on the VM. According to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/networking/technologies/nic-teaming/create-a-new-nic-team-on-a-host-computer-or-vm "You must use Hyper-V Manager or Windows PowerShell to create two external Hyper-V Virtual Switches, each connected to a different physical network adapter." In the above situation, the only way to get network reliability to the VM is to use SET. According to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v-virtual-switch/rdma-and-switch-embedded-teaming#switch-embedded-teaming-set "SET allows you to group between one and eight physical Ethernet network adapters into one or more software-based virtual network adapters." So we choose option B and run 'Set-VMSwitchTeam -Name TeamedvSwitch -NetAdapterName "NIC 2"'

Your link goes to a different question than this one. Notice in this one there is only one vSwitch whereas in the link you provided there are 3 vSwitches.

Wrong. Correct answer: D. "If you are configuring a NIC Team in a VM, you must select a Teaming mode of Switch Independent and a Load balancing mode of Address Hash." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/networking/technologies/nic-teaming/create-a-new-nic-team-on-a-host-computer-or-vm
