1: Disk1, Disk2, Disk3, Disk Differencing disk also expand dynamically disregarding what the settings of the parrent. 2: I would say Base 2 and Disk3 unfortunately this no choice.. Differencing cannot be manually increased because they are limited to the parent disksize. Expanding while VM is running is only in VHDX leaving Base2 and Disk3 https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-r2-and-2012/dn282286(v=ws.11) https://www.nakivo.com/blog/increase-disk-size-hyper-v-complete-guide/

Both Disk 1 (VHD) and Disk 3 (VHDX) can be manually increased in size while VM1 is running. Both disks are dynamically expanding and support online resizing, which means you can increase their size without shutting down the VM. Base 1 and Base 2 are fixed size disks, so their sizes cannot be changed once they are created. Disk 2 and Disk 4 are differencing disks, which means they depend on their respective base disks (Basel.vhd and Base2.vhdx) for their initial state and cannot be manually increased in size. Disks 3 and 4 (Disk3.VHDX and Disk4.VHDX) will increase in size automatically when files are copied to the disks.
