You cannot snapmirror from flexvol to flexgroup but starting with 9.7 you can convert from flexvol to flexgroup. You could also copy the data into the new volume using XCP (or robocopy, etc).

BD https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/flexgroup/supported-unsupported-config-concept.html#features-supported-beginning-with-ontap-9-8 XCP supports ANY NetApp to ANY NetApp migration.

https://www.netapp.com/pdf.html?item=/media/12385-tr4571pdf.pdf on Page 47 it says XCP can be used for Copy from FlexVol to FlexGroup if a rebalancing of the data is needed. If performance is not important or the initial volume is not filled up much you can use a conversion decribed here: https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/flexgroup/convert-flexvol-volume-task.html

B&D are the correct answers - ONTAP versions in question dont allow snapmirror replication between them and 9.1 doesnt allow in-place conversion to flexgroup, which is only possible in 9.7 and beyond.

B an D are correct , you can not convert a 9.1 flexvol to a 9.7 flexgroup , and snapmirror isnt supported either for those versions

FlexVol to FlexGroup Volume Conversion One much needed feature that was missing from ONTAP 9.6 was the ability to convert a FlexVol volume into a FlexGroup volume, meaning users would have to migrate data manually, and with large datasets this could take several days. In ONTAP 9.7 you can now perform an in-place conversion of a FlexVol volume into a FlexGroup volume with a single member, and this conversion takes less than 40 seconds; regardless of the size of the dataset. After conversion, you can then add member vols to the FlexGroup to expand capacity and performance. It also works with FabricPool without having to touch tiered data

Snapmirror from 9.1 to 9.7 seems not supported. I think the answer about " snapmirror" is not correc, may be? https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/data-protection/compatible-ontap-versions-snapmirror-concept.html#snapmirror-dr-relationships

Starting with ONTAP 9.7, you can perform an in-place conversion of a FlexVol volume to a FlexGroup volume without requiring a data copy or additional disk space. Starting with ONTAP 9.7, you can convert standalone FlexVol volumes or FlexVol volumes that are in a SnapMirror relationship to FlexGroup volumes.
