A project manager is part of a team that is launching a series of features to comply with a new regulation. The team has only 6 weeks to release the features to the legacy applications. During the standup meeting, a software engineer indicated that the development of an important feature is on hold until the assigned designer completes a specific task. This delay is a serious road block to meeting the release date.
What should the project manager do?

  • A. Meet with the design team manager to inform them of the current status and request an additional designer
  • B. Ask the software engineer to move forward without completing the important feature
  • C. Contact the design team manager and ask to reconsider the priority list based on the latest situation
  • D. Meet with the designer to share the current status and develop a solution to complete the task

D The project manager should immediately address the dependency issue by discussing it with the designer to understand the delay and explore potential solutions, such as reallocating resources or adjusting priorities. They should also communicate the urgency of the situation to relevant stakeholders and consider alternative approaches to ensure the timely completion of the feature and meet the release date. I’ll go with D as well, and if the designer is having serious issues meeting up, we can then escalate to the design team manager

since its for meeting a new regulation, hence there is time constraint. The designer is assigned, so approach the designer's functional manager to sort this out.

A face-to-face meeting with the team and discussing solutions to road blockers work here. Escalating to the team manager should be the last option here.

i go with C, Meeting with the designer team manger seems to be more appropriate, sometimes the designer might not have say over what to pick as priority except for what is communicated by superior. Explain situations to designer's superior and hope you get a positive feedback.

I will go with D. As a project manager, it is important to address issues and roadblocks that may prevent the team from meeting the project's objectives. In this scenario, the best approach is to coordinate with the designer to understand the cause of the delay and provide the necessary support to expedite the completion of the task. This may include helping to resolve any technical or resource-related issues, facilitating communication between team members, or adjusting priorities as needed to ensure that the critical feature is completed on time.
