Selected Answer: B
Creating a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) involves breaking down the project work into smaller, more manageable pieces, typically represented as work packages. This helps in organizing and understanding the project scope, which is a fundamental step in project planning and management. Decomposition (option C) is a broader term and can involve breaking down work into smaller components. In this context, creating a WBS is a specific type of decomposition.

Selected Answer: C
The project manager is subdividing the project work packages, which means they are breaking down the project scope and deliverables into smaller, more manageable components. This process is known as "decomposition." When used in the context of creating a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), decomposition refers to the act of breaking down the project scope into the hierarchical structure of the WBS, where each level represents an increasing level of detail. Therefore, the correct answer is C. Decomposition.

Selected Answer: C
Decomposition as defined in PMBOK (5th Edition) is a tool and technique used to divide and subdivide the project scope and deliverable into more smaller, manageable work packages. Once the scope is decomposed, it’ll be the lowest level of WBS which can be estimated and managed in terms of cost and schedule. The size of the work package after decomposition will depend on the complexity and size of the project. At the time of decomposing, activities such as assigning identification codes to each work package will take place.

WBS: A WBS is a hierarchical breakdown of project deliverables and work packages. It is used to organize and define the scope of a project. It is created by breaking down the project deliverables into smaller and more manageable components. The WBS provides a framework for the project schedule and budget. It is typically presented in a chart format.

Decomposition: Decomposition is a technique used to break down a project into smaller, more manageable parts. It is used to define the activities required to complete a project. Decomposition is a part of the process of creating a WBS. It involves breaking down project deliverables into smaller components until they can be accurately estimated and managed. Decomposition can be used to create a hierarchical WBS or a linear task list.

This question is like asking which one of an identical twin is prettier! Anyhow I'd go with option B.

Keyword: "working with the project team to subdivide the project work packages." On a second thought, "subdivide the work packages", means a further breakdown of the work package NOT that the work is being divided among the team to know who's doing what! sheesh! I guess Decomposition is the answer!
