I was confused as well about this. However, apparently salesforce provides standard reports stored in some default standard folders. Those reports that salesforce generates are what they mean by "standard reports". They aren't talking about the report types that show up by default when you press "new report".
you can't use standard reports in Dashboards which is limitation. if you want to use them then create custom report of it and then you can able to add in Dashboards.
Subscribe to dashboards to refresh them on a schedule that you set (daily, weekly, or monthly), and receive the refreshed dashboards results by email. You can subscribe to dashboards yourself and also add other users, groups, and roles.
Also Available on Classic to schedule a refresh and get email.
