Answer is B because When sharing settings are set to Private, the record owner and users above the record owner in the role hierarchy can view the record. In the scenario described, the sales manager should be able to view the contact owned by the salesperson, as they are above the salesperson in the role hierarchy. If the sales manager is still unable to view the contact, there may be other sharing settings or sharing rules that are preventing access. Grant Access Using Hierarchies cannot be unchecked for standard objects.

Anser is B: https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000385610&type=1 When a contact record is saved without an associated Account, the system treats it as though the sharing settings are Private. This means that only the contact owner and those with View All Data or Modify All Data can search for it using Global Search or Lookup Search.
