Four Discovery phases:
- Scanning: Are you there? How will I classify you?
o Probes and sensors are used
- Classification: How should I classify you specifically?
o Probes and sensors are used
- Identification: Have I seen you before?
o Patterns are used (or additional probes and sensors)
- Exploration: What else can you tell me about yourself?
o Software running on the IP-enabled device is identified
o Patterns are used (or additional probes and sensors)
