wmi.conf: This configuration file is specifically used in Splunk to define Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) inputs. WMI is a set of specifications from Microsoft for consolidating the management of devices and applications in a network from Windows computing systems. When you want to collect data using WMI, you configure these inputs in the wmi.conf file.
