The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which in turn prompts the anterior pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH). LH, which is also known as interstitial cell-stimulating hormone (ICSH), stimulates the interstitial cells of the testicles, also known as Leydig cells, to produce testosterone.
