i think A is the right answer, because in question "An administrator is designing a vSphere cluster with the VSAN default policy" vsan default policy is raid "1" and for redudancy if 1 host maintenance mode minimum host is "4"

RAID6 would also keep the data redundant when 1 host is down for maintenance, but it think A is better because the answer in D also lists RAID5 as an option and that's clearly not redundant when 1 host is down for maintenance.

RAID6 requires 6 hosts at a minimum (RAID5 requires 4 hosts at a minimum). You would require one additional host on top of this to maintain full redundancy. A good read on erasure coding is https://cormachogan.com/2016/02/15/vsan-6-2-part-2-raid-5-and-raid-6-configurations/

Hmm had to re-read this. The question states that the default storage policy is used and by combining this with the answer A of 4 hosts there is enough information in the question and answer to meet the requirement. If you select D you only have information regarding the RAID policy but no information regarding the number of hosts so you don't have the information required to confirm this meets the requirement. Bit of a trick question this one. Sneaky.

A is the correct answer: maintaining full redundancy during patching = you need one more host so you still have 3 hosts available for FTT=1 (2-way mirror plus one witness for each component) even when you take one host offline for patching
