Exam 3V0-624 topic 1 question 47 discussion

Actual exam question from VMware's 3V0-624
Question #: 47
Topic #: 1
[All 3V0-624 Questions]

A solution architect has been tasked with designing a new environment that meets the needs of a growing company, and has obtained this information.
✑ The current capacity will be exhausted in 180 days, and the new infrastructure must be deployed and in production prior to that.
✑ The new servers have a 90-day delivery time.
✑ A data center for disaster recovery has been selected, and it is 20 miles away and connected by MPLS.
✑ The security team will continue to utilize its current investments and VM Encryption for the new environment.
✑ The backup team currently uses Data Domain, and reports show an 8:1 compression and deduplication ration for backups.
Based on the information obtained, which two statements are risks for the new design? (Choose two.)

  • A. MPLS will be used to connect the two data centers.
  • B. The Change Advisory Board will approve all changes.
  • C. Current back up space will not be sufficient if using VM Encryption.
  • D. The current firewalls will support the additional workloads.

A) Not a risk - it's the DR site, and there's no mention of redundancy or lack thereof B) Risk - Change advisory board could have impact on delivery C) Risk - Encryption has huge impact on capacity since deduplication wont work as well D) Assumption

IMHO: A) Risk. Single point of failure (it's not mentioned a backup line) B) Risk. Budget/change yet to be approved are always a risk C) Assumption. As encryption is already in use therefore already accounted on the DataDomain ratio. Also, there is no info about the size of the storage and how much is available, so we would need to find that out first. The risk could be on using the current investments, and that VM encryption is not supported for replicaiton, but answer is only related to backup space. D) Assumption. No info provided about the firewall, so we have to assume that is up to the task and investigate that.

100% on the Backup space. First of all, I have yet to see anyone get 8:1 on anything encrypted. But as much as a fantasy it may be, they are already using encryption and continuing to use it in new design. Thus the existing efficiency ratios can be assumed going forward.

However, after further thought, the question implies that the new datacenter 20 miles away is being migrated to. Thus, the VM's must be un-encrypted to perform replication with minimal downtime . https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2106952 * vSphere Encryption is not supported with cross vCenter Server vMotioning and cloning of virtual machines.

I don't think "A" should be a risk: MPLS is a highly reliable, very scalable, protocol-independent option for data center interconnect...MPLS is what 90% of customers use who have successfully deployed a DR solution as a DCI. The reason is reliability. MPLS has a feature called MPLS Local Protection; this ensures ultra-fast cutover when a redundant link in the network dies. https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/products/nsx/vmware-nsx-for-disaster-recovery-guide.pdf

A and C. It’s a growing company so may not even have a CAB and also 30 miles for DR is not best practice, 100 miles is better so think that 20 mile detail is a giveaway

Correct answer: BD a) no much details on MPLS connection, but it can be a redundant circuit (MPLS with a backup line) b) advisory board can change their budget priorities (e.g. new company acquisition) c) Encryption has no impact on storage size D) number of firewall rules are limited (vendor specific) -> https://www.tunnelsup.com/cisco-asa-max-acl-limit/

Wrong. Encryption has a BIG impact on backup sizes since it wont be able to deduplicate data. They mention that the NEW environment will use VM Encryption, so there is a risk that the storage capacity for backups wont be sufficient due to the encryption.

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vsphere.security.doc/GUID-B3DA9865-A28F-4EFD-ACF4-CBC8813ED110.html The encryption process encrypts data on the host before it is written to storage. Backend storage features such as deduplication and compression might not be effective for encrypted virtual machines. Consider storage tradeoffs when using vSphere Virtual Machine Encryption.
