@hjacquemin, I think you're overthinking it. 2 different groups gives you load balancing, no? "For redundancy, HSRP runs between R1 and R2, either of which can become the active router and take "ownership" of the HSRP virtual IP address."

Basically, HSRP doesn't provide redundancy. You have to create 2 different groups to simulate redundancy. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/hot-standby-router-protocol-hsrp/13781-7.html
