You have been asked to install and configure a new switch in a customer network. Use the console access to the existing and new switches to configure and verify correct device configuration.

You are adding new VLANs. VLAN500 and VLAN600 to the topology in such way that you need to configure SW1 as primary root for VLAN 500 and secondary for
VLAN 600 and SW2 as primary root for VLAN 600 and secondary for VLAN 500. Which configuration step is valid?

  • A. Configure VLAN 500 & VLAN 600 on both SW1 & SW2
  • B. Configure VLAN 500 and VLAN 600 on SW1 only
  • C. Configure VLAN 500 and VLAN 600 on SW2 only
  • D. Configure VLAN 500 and VLAN 600 on SW1 ,SW2 and SW4
  • E. On SW2; configure vtp mode as off and configure VLAN 500 and VLAN 600; configure back to vtp server mode.
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: Explanation 🗳️
By issuing the "show vtp status command on SW2, SW2, and SW4 we see that both SW1 and SW2 are operating in VTP server mode, but SW4 is a client, so we will need to add both VLANs to SW1 and SW2.

Hello Guys ! I did research regarding this question and the answer is correct. I was confused as well as primary vtp server is only one that can "CREATE" vlans we agree on that ! But the question does not say CRATE VLAN!!!! It is saying your "You are adding new VLANs." meaning vlans are already added trough sw1(primary) and you are asked how you will configure this so "SW1 as primary root for VLAN 500 and secondary for VLAN 600 and SW2 as primary root for VLAN 600 and secondary for VLAN 500" So answer is correct to make one primary for one of the vlans and one primary for the second vlan you will need to configure them on BOTH SW1 and SW2 answer is correct !!!

Just tested this on my switches; options A,B,C,D are not working with the configuration they have (SW1 and SW2 are VTP servers but SECONDARY servers!) Had this question on my exam today and it seems none of the answers is correct. Since the version they run is VTP v3, first thing I did check was which one of them is primary server (as there can be only one primary server) none of them was PRIMARY. Primary server here is a switch with ID "aabb.cc00.2b00", and switches 1 and 2 have these IDs: Server SW1 ID is : aabb.cc00.2500 Server SW2 ID is : aabb.cc00.2600 so none of them is primary! SW4 is out of the question since it is in CLIENT mode Obviously answer E does not work as well as the switch is in VTP client mode which does not allow any vlan creations whatsoever. So it seems cisco is playing full of us, since it seems NONE of the answers are really correct. Correct me about that if I am wrong. Had my daubts about few other questions as well.

Switch 1 and Switch 2 are in vtp server mode; yes, but the run version 3 and none of them is listed as PRIMARY server. They are SECONDARY servers, which means they can't create any vlans at all. Only primary server can create vlans. From live switch: SW1#conf t Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z. SW1(config)#vlan 500 VTP VLAN configuration not allowed when device is not the primary server for vlan database. SW1(config)# -------------------------------------------------------- so this does NOT look as correct answer.
