Scenario -
You have been asked to install and configure a new switch in a customer network. Use the console access to the existing and new switches to configure and verify correct device configuration.

Topology -

You are adding new VLANs. VLAN500 and VLAN600 to the topology in such way that you need to configure SW1 as primary root for VLAN 500 and secondary for
VLAN 600 and SW2 as primary root for VLAN 600 and secondary for VLAN 500. Which configuration step is valid?

  • A. Configure VLAN 500 & VLAN 600 on both SW1 & SW2
  • B. Configure VLAN 500 and VLAN 600 on SW1 only
  • C. Configure VLAN 500 and VLAN 600 on SW2 only
  • D. Configure VLAN 500 and VLAN 600 on SW1 ,SW2 and SW4
  • E. On SW2; configure vtp mode as off and configure VLAN 500 and VLAN 600; configure back to vtp server mode.
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A 🗳️
By issuing the "show vtp status command on SW2, SW2, and SW4 we see that both SW1 and SW2 are operating in VTP server mode, but SW4 is a client, so we will need to add both VLANs to SW1 and SW2.

it is very vague question, cisco is trolling us. Formally, we need to configure VLANs only on the primary server, it is only "step", we also need to configure stp priority on sw1, sw2, but it could be second step... What did they mean? it is unclear, it is obscure...

Its not only about creating VLANS but you also have to set primary root for both VLANS. Its not clear which one is the primary server cause the primary ID does not match with the primary description......

It is B, only SW1 can add the VLANs.

This is not correct you can check the cisco website , in vtp3 , only primary VTP Server . can do changes to configuration adding vlans etc ... so correct answer is SW1 which is Primary VTP Server !!!!!! All website just take information from certprepare , when they are wrong you guys all overwrite same mistake !!!

Hi Metodius, in the real world when you hit "sh vtp status" , you should have this: Feature VLAN: -------------- VTP Operating Mode : Primary Server But on those outputs, I do not see anywhere where a switch is "primary server". SW1 and SW2 are both servers. In version 2, this would be easier, just adding vlan on one Switch.

is not the one with the higher revision number of the two vtp server the master? and if you adjust the configuration on one, the revision number increases there...?

AFAIK: The master server role configures manually by a network engineer. In this case both switches SW1 and SW2 have an equal role - the VTP server. None of them are a master server.
