The correct answer is Windows 10, I agree with Farrell1602. Here's an explanation from Jason Dion's practice exams (same question): OBJ-1.2: All four of these versions of Windows have the same minimum requirements. For a 32-bit operating system, the minimum requirements are a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, and at least 16 GB of hard drive space. For a 64-bit operating system, the minimum requirements are a 1 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, and at least 20 GB of hard drive space. Since all four have the exact same minimum requirements, it is recommended that the user install the most modern operating system on this laptop for the best support for updates in the long-term.

This is almost correct! Only the 32 bit version of Windows 10 supports 1GB of RAM. The 64 bit version requires at least 2GB of RAM. (The only reason I would bring this up is because the 32 bit version is extremely undesirable in a business environment for many reasons, and 32 bit support is being removed from windows in a few years.)

I might be wrong, but is it not possible for the user to upgrade straight to Windows 10 (32-bit version), even with those hardware components? Also, Microsoft has officially stopped supporting Windows 7 altogether.

Actually, it is 32 GB of disk space for x32 and x64.

Incorrect. The space requirements for Win10 x32 is 16gb, and for x64 it's 20gb. 1gb RAM is insufficient for any x64 OS, and the x32 OS all have the same requirements.

Actually, it’s not possible to perform an upgrade install from Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8 either.

Given the hardware specifications of the user's computer (1GB of RAM, 16GB of hard drive space, and a 1.7GHz processor), it's advisable to choose an operating system that is optimized for lower resource usage. In this case, Windows 7 would be the most suitable option among the listed choices.

I don't know what's going on in the comments. Are there people trying to sabotage? Yuck, these people are getting tricky. If your computer hardware SUCKS as stated and you HAVE to upgrade FROM WINDOWS XP and you want the BEST PERFORMANCE of the operating systems listed... (these are the facts so far correct? Yes, yes they are...) You should only go up to Windows 7.

google what has better performance on old hardware windows 7 vs windows 10. The answer is 7. But i'm hesitant because I don't know what COMPTIA's answer will be.

Let say it can work on windows 10, do you think on the specified specification on the question will make the computer run better on windows 10 i dont think so, i think windows 7 are much more minimal ui and easy to run. Windows 10 might be possible but enjoy the moon space browsing.

Answer is A. It is asking for which OS will have the BEST performance with the specs given. The specs listed are, quite frankly, not very good. It probably wouldn't be able to even run a newer OS like 8 or 10 without bursting into flames. A will give you BY FAR the best performance.

I would go w/ D The following are hardware requirements for Windows 10: Processor: 1 GHz or faster processor or SoC RAM: 1 (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver Display: 800×600

IT IS NOT WINDOWS 10 Here's why: Starting with the May 2019 Update, the system requirements for hard drive size for clean installs of Windows 10 as well as new PCs changed to a minimum of 32GB. The 32GB or larger drive requirement is set to leave space for users to install apps and to keep data on the device. Installing Windows or updating from a previous version of Windows on devices with less than 32GB storage will continue to work if the device has enough free space available. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-specifications

The limited hardware in this workstation implies that it is old. Whether Win10 has the same minimum requirements or not, Win7 is probably still less taxing.

Selected Answer: A
The keyword is "BEST performance" All of them can run 32bit versions of windows but WINDOWS 7 is literally made for this low requirement environment and thus offer stable running performance. I could be wrong but if we think about it logically higher the OS or software is the more demands and requirements are needed.

the question is upgrade not install. There is no direct upgrade path for Windows Vista (or the much older Windows XP) to Windows 10. if i will stick on the question i would go with professor messer explanation.

According to messer, the minimum process/CPU requirement for Windows 10 is 1Ghz processor with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2. Knowing this, how can the answer be Windows 10? I would say the answer is Windows 7 because of this.

Key words is "BEST performance." Although Windows 10 or 8.1 will be able to run on those specs, Windows 7 will have the best performance since it is not as cpu demanding than the more recent versions.
