[“the customer is unable to get to any wired network resources, shared drives, printers, or the Internet” – a DNS problem] A – Ping – start by trying to ping the DNS server – this is clearly a DNS problem – see if you can connect to it Not B - hwconfig.exe is known as Softing AG EDIC Hardware Installer and Configurator Not C -- Nbtstat displays current TCP/IP connections and statistics. Why would you want to examine TCP/IP connections – you know there are none – “the customer is unable to get to any wired network resources” Not D – Nslookup uses DNS to list IP addresses and/or DNS Names – won’t tell you if you can connect to them.

Well D can tell you if you see them, unless you have a vpn that doesn't have split tunneling.

I take back my original answer C. If the ping command is successful, it means the network connection is working at least up to the point of the pinged device. If it fails, it indicates that there’s a network connectivity issue. So yea A.. ping

This question is not set correctly, first how can you ping when you cannot get to any wired network resources, shared drives, printers, or the Internet. which means he cant able to see any one of them or not even connected. Guys so how can you ping when you need IP address of the other host. or you just ping ping and you get result from any where. you need to see any network which is available or diplay use ipconfig to display ip address of your network . im not sure what they really asking here.

NBstat has to do with statistics of tcp not network shares so PING is correct

Ping is the correct answer here. Ipconfig only gives you the info where as ping will test you IP/TCP stack to troubleshoot it.

But doesn't ipconfig give you info but doesn't actually troubleshoot?

IPCONFIG is not an option from the choices. The BEST answer is PING to figure out what you can or cannot actually reach on the network.
