The correct answer is D: The laptop must join the HomeGroup. Explanation OBJ-1.6: The HomeGroup for the home network must be joined in order for the laptop to access the local network's shared files from the network's media server. The rest of the options can be dismissed since the laptop is able to access the internet successfully and browse the web.

The question was missing what version of Windows since W10 does not support home group. Dion's question specifically states W8 to ensure you are aware that home group can be added. Answer is D per Betty.

Joe has access to internet. Joe is trying to connect to his share media server at HOME using a business "issues" laptop. A: Ip addr has nothing to do here B: VPN has nothing to do here since he's no trying to access resources of the business. C: the internal windows defender firewall of the laptop might be set to allow only specific traffic based on the business policy. D. Homegroup is used on small office (20 pc's) and home. A business will have way more clients and will be using a domain instead. The answer is C!

This was my thoughts as well. Since its a enterprise issued laptop its connected to a domain and Joe has to abide by their polices.

Selected Answer: B
The most likely explanation for why Joe cannot access his personal shares from a company-issued Windows laptop is that a corporate VPN is enabled. When connected to a VPN, the laptop will typically route all traffic through the corporate network, effectively blocking any access to local network resources. To access local resources while connected to a VPN, the VPN must be configured to allow split tunneling or Joe may need to disconnect from the VPN before attempting to access his home media server.

EXAM TIP HomeGroup works in Windows 7/8/8.1 and in early versions of Windows 10. Microsoft dropped support for HomeGroup in Windows 10 in 2018. You will see HomeGroup as an active feature of Windows on the CompTIA 1002 exam. HomeGroup uses the idea that people want to share data, not folders. Most people just want to share their music, not their My Music or Music folder. So homegroups skip folders completely and share your Windows libraries. A homegroup connects a group of computers using a common password—no special user names required. Each computer can be a member of only one homegroup at a time. Let’s make a homegroup and see how this works.

Selected Answer: C
Per https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/homegroup-from-start-to-finish-9f802c8c-900f-60fb-826f-6fe06add8fe9#ID0EBBD=Windows_10, HomeGroup has been removed from Windows 10. Furthermore, if you work at enterprise company, they most likely block many functions on Windows OS and macOS such as share a folder within personal computer at home or airplay or even web browser setting for security purpose. It does with firewall rule or by OS. Some of setting you're not even able to change.

I was wrong, D is correct. Here is a similar question from Dions CompTIA A+ (220-1002) Test Prep, Exams and Simulations on Udemy. Jason took home a company-issued Windows 8.1 laptop home to do some work. He successfully connected it to his home's wireless network and verified he could access the internet and browse his favorite websites. Unfortunately, Jason cannot access any of the network's shared files from his home network's media server. Which of the following may be why Jason is unable to access the network shares in his home network? A. The laptop has an IP conflict B. The laptop must join the HomeGroup (correct answer) C. The laptop's gateway is not properly configured D. The laptop's DNS configuration is not properly setup The HomeGroup for the home network must be joined for the laptop to access the local network's shared files from the network's media server. The rest of the options can be dismissed since the laptop can access the internet successfully and browse the web.

The answer is C, windows has a firewall active by default, and his company may well have one of their own installed. To everyone determined the answer should be D - Where in the question does it say that his home media server requires homegroup to connect? as others have pointed out homegroup is no longer a thing in newer versions of windows but besides that you CAN configure network shares without it.

The Official Comptia A+ Certification Study guide says: If a certain application that uses the Internet seems to be working okay but isn’t connecting to its online resources, suspect a firewall issue. Make sure that the application is allowed through the firewall in the list shown in Figure 22-4 . Sadly I couldn't find anything deeper than that. But if it's coming straight from CompTIA I'm gonna believe C is the answer

D . HomeGroup must be enabled NOT C -- We don’t know if Joe has a firewall enabled – the question doesn’t say. But we do know that file sharing is a network thing always – so the laptop needs to be a part of the home network to use file sharing within that network.

IMO the answer is D. It's a company-issued device which means it's configured to use a vpn for accessing shares but Joe is trying to connect to his HOME media center, not work.

Agree that the answer is D, company-issued is most likely part of a domain or workgroup and as Itt pointed out, most likely configured to use a VPN. Windows Home Group allows devices that are part of the home group to be discoverable.
