Potential unfortunate error on this question. I would have thought the response to this would have been Windows 8(.0). Please can anyone else confirm to help resolve the situation. Thanks in advance if you try to help with this.

Read the question carefully. "DEFAULTS" is the key word. Windows 7 - no tiled menu. Windows 8 - tiled menu ONLY! NO ALTERNATIVES!! The only correct answer is Windows 8.1 because it "DEFAULTS" to tiled menu unless you configure it to boot into Desktop Mode.

Just google search it everyone. A defaulted tile menu is on Windows 10 whereas a defaulted tile desktop is Windows 7.

That's just flat out wrong. A tiled menu would be referring to the Windows 8's boxy homescreen, which Windows 10 doesn't default to (it defaults to a classic desktop). Windows 10 includes the tiles in the start menu and allows you to expand that to take up the full screen if you choose. Whoever is approving these answers is attempting to make people fail.

It is Windows 8, as Windows 10 and 7 default to a normal desktop.

Microsoft introduced Live Tiles in Windows Phone 7 and then brought it to the desktop in Windows 8 in its push to bring a touch experience to the desktop.

Just checked my Windows 10 start menu and it is tiled so I guess referring to tiled "start menu" whereas tiled "desktop" refers to Windows 8. Another trick question possibly.

It's too vague as it's worded. However they never mentioned 'start menu', just 'menu'. The desktop is a form of a menu. Plus they word it as 'defaults' to a tiled menu instead of a desktop. The only OS that defaulted to a tiled menu was 8 with the introduction of the MetroUI.
