D is by far the least intrusive to check and could tell you a lot. For example - the system freeze occurs after the user logs in. As others have said it could be a one time thing. Or it could be something is trying to run that needs administrator rights to run, and that is preventing the system getting any further. Either of these problems would be quickly diagnosed with logging in as the admin and then, if successful, trying again as the user to see if the freeze still occurs. After that you could try booting into safe mode if you still haven't fixed the problem.

Selected Answer: C
The system froze after installing new software and rebooting, which suggests the software or its drivers might be causing the problem. Booting into Safe Mode allows the system to start with minimal drivers and services, which often bypasses problematic software or drivers. Using msconfig to set Safe Boot ensures the next reboot goes into Safe Mode. This step allows troubleshooting without immediately restoring files or involving vendor support, which should come later if the problem persists.

emergency repair disk (ERD) Saves critical boot files and partition information and is the main tool for fixing boot problems in older versions of Windows. Newer versions of Windows call this a system repair disc (Windows 7) or recovery drive (Windows 8/8.1 and 10).

In a domain-based environment where user permissions can play havoc on app installs and usability, I'd check functionality with an admin user before altering anything.

agreed, you want to see if the problem persists before you restore the most recent files. what if it was a one time thing?

B would come after. I can see where they are coming from. It's kinda in the same concept as if I had download a application and soon as I did stuff on it. I got errors on everything.. but then I ask a coworker to download the same app on his user profile, same pc.. and it works.. but still doesn't work on yours.. that would give signs of a corrupted user profile. If the another user profile tried the application and it works.. in this case a admin .. then the issue is pointing to the user profile and not the application. Hence why B is not the answer. It could be though later on
