An end user's PC is taking a long time to boot. Which of the following operations would be the BEST to resolve this issue with minimal expense? (Choose two.)
A full defrag can make a noticeable change on the boot speed only if the computer is using a magnetic drive and not a SSD, also the loss in speed due to fragmentation is not from one day to another. Even further Win 8/8.1/10 defrag the drives on a weekly basis and there is no info that it is a Windows 7 PC. On the other hand a drive with very little space left can severely slow down a PC and a Cleanup Utility pass is way faster that a defrag and can make a big difference in speed by releasing a couple of GBs, in less time and with less waste over the HDD.
Any other opinion?
I'm going to stick to A and B because I guess those three ABandF is right depending on the computer hard drive storage space or if it's heavily fragmented. It doesn't matter anyway the question is too lacking a point.
You will be so annoyed at the answer to this one... This is proof that CompTIA hates you and wants you to fail.
Everyone knows that the first thing you would check when troubleshooting a slow boot is the startup items, but the CompTIA exam is not based on actual reality.
According to the official CompTIA prayer guide/songbook, they put "Cleanup And Defragment the hard drive" as the second option right after running the system troubleshooter. They list a number of other operations before they finally get to the "remove applications from startup" operation.
I was pretty stumped by this one, because the two choices (defragment and cleanup) are so similar and have equal effect on system performance. So I looked in the official texts and found the answer. Defrag and Cleanup. *annoyed*
the question is focused around /price/ not time. The cheapest option would be A and B
