A user's phone contains customer's PII. The user cannot have the phone automatically wiped because the data is very valuable. Which of the following is the BEST method of securing the phone?
Fingerprint scanners are security systems of biometrics. They are used in police stations, security industries, smartphones, and other mobile devices.
Advantages
Higher accuracy – As one of the most sophisticated biometric modalities, fingerprint scanners provide almost 100% of accuracy during authentication. Faster access – Compared to typing a password, a fingerprint scanner can lock and unlock your workstation or device quickly
this question is not about the best security options .it's about choosing which one of these options won't trigger a wipe if there are multiple wrong inputs.I think you can put your Passcode wrong multiple times and all it will do is lock you out for a few minutes but wont trigger a data wipe if I remember correctly
The last sentence of the question literally says "Which of the following is the BEST method of securing the phone?"
So the correct answer can only be something that you are. A) Fingerprint Scanner is the correct answer
While fingerprint is something you have, it doesn't increase security much. It's just secondary to the passcode. Enable both fingerprint and passcode on your phone and restart. It will not unlock until you have the correct passcode. Regardless of your fingerprint. The phone manufacturer's obviously you the passcode as the more secure encryption method.
Question states "cannot have data automatically wiped" which there is an option in most phones to wipe the device after so many failed passcode attempts. That would be why A is the better choice here.
This is not about right finger print nor passcode nor swipe pattern nor PIN. It is about data protection when the data would be erased. A passcode, swipe pattern and PIN is primary security method and it can cause of data deletion when you fail to match. However, fingerprint or FaceID is secondary security method that can conveniently unlock your smartphone without typing or swiping the screen. If you failed scan your fingerprint or face multiple times then your smartphone will ask you to enter passcode in case of iPhone. If you failed to enter the right passcode, then it will delete all of your data.

B, Passcode is the best way to secure a phone. It is the also the most cumbersome and can be forgotten or shoulder surfed. If you want ease of use and are willing to sacrifice security, then do fingerprint or PIN lock. Even in this case, PIN lock is MORE secure than fingerprint. I am not certain why SamuelSami picked fingerprint for most security - it is a middle path between secure and convenient.
Is PII a fingerprint?
Personally Identifiable Information (PII) includes: ... Personal address information: street address, or email address. Personal telephone numbers. Personal characteristics: photographic images (particularly of face or other identifying characteristics), fingerprints, or handwriting.
Fingerprint scanners may be more accurate but they are also the easiest to manipulate to get into a device unless you are in the habit of cleaning your scanner after every use. I believe the answer would be a passcode lock because they are easier to defend against brute force attacks with the proper formatting
