B is correct. The desktop get special static IP from DHCP Reservation. (Manually sign static IP on PC is wrong operation.as it will cause duplicate IP release by DHCP).The laptop must have the same special static IP manually, that will cause the IP Conflict problem when connect to the network. To solve the problem. The First STEP is to set the laptop to use DHCP. The 2nd step is to change DHCP Server setting. So the answer is B.

If the laptop is new and the desktop is old and the user needs a static configuration then it is the new laptop that needs the static configuration, which means the desktop needs to lose it's static config so there is no longer a conflict with the laptop.

It is C. I supposed both the Laptop and the old desktop have the "specifically allocated address", but there are 2 identical "specifically allocated address" causing IP conflicts. If we remove the "specifically allocated address" from old desktop, there will be only ONE "specifically allocated address" left on the laptop, and making it able to log in to specialized software again. I think it is not B, as the DHCP allocates the dynamic IP address, which is totally random and it is unlikely a "specifically allocated address". Hope that makes sense

I think it's C. Remove the static IP configuration from the desktop. The question says the software "requires a specifically allocated (IP) address" to connect to the software and it seems like the old desktop has been assigned that specific static IP address. Since the desktop is old and probably being replaced by the new laptop, it should be configured to use DHCP instead so that the new laptop can be assigned that specific IP address as it will be used more often by the user.
