Answer is A. Key word here id "device registration." For that functionality, all you need is the schema to be 2012 R2 or higher. General ADFS functions only require Domain/Forest 2003 or higher, or 2008 if using certain certificate functions. Upgrading a DC to 2016 updates the schema to 2016, which meets the goal. The answer is A) YES Explanation: You raise the "FOREST" functional level to Windows Server 2012 R2, this solution is correct. However, upgrading a domain controller will run adprep.exe to upgrade the schema as part of the upgrade process. Domain controller requirements AD FS requires Domain controllers running Windows Server 2008 or later. At least one Windows Server 2016 domain controller is required for Microsoft Passport for Work.

the answer is not correct, it should be B, because upgrade a domain controller is required in a way of stairstep, you cannot be able to directly upgrade the OS from 2008r2 to 2016, you should do that from 2008r2 to 2012r2, once it's done then you can now upgrade from 2012r to 2016, forest functional level (forest schema) is the key. in conclusion, the answer is B.

The questions says "All domain controllers run Windows Server 2012 R2". Upgrading one of them to 2016 is the minimum requirement

There are four alternatives of this question I believe that the those that ask to just raise the domain functional level or raise the forest functional level are wrong. But I'm not sure for this one and another one which ask to run adprep.exe Can any one help?

Forest must be updated to 2012. Upgrading a DC OS does not change the domain level or forest level which are both 2008 per the question. NO is the correct answer.

Although the AD Schema is prepared for Windows 2016 by the upgrade of the domain controller to 2016, the forest itself remains in the 2008 level!!! You cannot raise the forest or domainlevel if lower version DCs are present. So it still does not meet the requirements for a 2016 ADFS, the answer should be B

After reading https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/identity/ad-fs/overview/ad-fs-requirements I must conclude that it only requires 2008 Forest and domain level and a 2016 AD Schema. As the upgrade prepared the schema for 2016, the answer is indeed correct, so A is correct

I was told by a MCST that upgrading a DC to 2016 just extends the schema so for him the answer is NO. But i am confused as many answers say YES. Does anyone know for sure?
