Exam 70-740 topic 1 question 209 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's 70-740
Question #: 209
Topic #: 1
[All 70-740 Questions]

You have two servers named Server1 and Server2 that run Windows Server 2016.
Server1 and Server2 are nodes in a Network Load Balancing (NLB) cluster. The Web Server role is installed on each node.
Users report that when they submit web form data, sometimes the data is not stored, and they must fill in the form again.
You need to resolve the issue. The solution must ensure that connections are load balanced between Server1 and Server2.
What should you do in the NLB cluster?

  • A. Modify the existing port rules.
  • B. Modify the Cluster operation mode.
  • C. Add the Microsoft Load Balancing/Failover Provider service to all of the network adapters.
  • D. Add an IP address.

Correct answer is A, modify the port rules. To change the affinity setting to single. This will allow session data to be maintained with the clients. https://www.omnisecu.com/windows-2003/clustering/network-load-balancing-nlb-client-affinity-and-port-onfiguration.php#:~:text=Client%20affinity%20can%20be%20configured,client%20to%20the%20same%20server.

I seem to agree, following the link provided with the site listed answer, modes of operation has no effect on redirecting single user to the same server maintaining the session, unlike the link you provided regarding prot rules.

I agree with members who say A is correct. What I should understand is that Affinity is included in Port Rule. Though I don't know for detail, OS controls Affinity by Port Rule. My understand is that operation modes(unicast/multicast) are used between nodes.and that affinity is used between client and cluster.

This is about an affinity rule. The Single Affinity rule should be set, by modifying the Port Rule. This will still allow load balancing between both NLB hosts, while a single user will always be sent to the same host. Changing the port rule will not affect the load balancing between the nodes. the correct answer is A - edit the port rule.

I don't know NLB can be called NLB Cluster and hence we can modify the cluster setting to alter NLB behavior...
