The answer is NO. Server 2016 does support Dedup for ReFS, but only after updating using the Semi-Annual service channel. All 740 exam questions will be under the assumption that this version of Windows Server 2016 is fresh out of the box unless specifically mentioned within the question itself. Bare this information in mind.

I think that correct answer is B. I think that 70-740 exam is based on its first release, not annual release. The reason is in the MS web site. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/exam-70-740.aspx In this site MS recommends following points. 1) MS recommends an Exam Prep session from Microsoft Ignite 2017. 2) MS recommends following a reference book published January 2017. Exam Ref 70-740 Installation, Storage and Compute with Windows Server 2016 3) MS doesn't refer to Windows Server release on Exam 740 change document.

If you look at the current status as of 02/01/2020 Data-Dedup is supported for ReFS. However this was only limited to NTFS in the early days since the release of Server 2016. Tricky one!

I'm making an educated guess Microsoft does not go back and edit test for version upgrades. I'm guessing when 70-740 was released... dedupe/Refs was not available in 2016.

To avoid confusion it wouldn't surprise me if they just removed the question from the 2016 exam pool. We'll still learn it though just in case.

See for more info. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/deduplication/enable-dedupvolume?view=win10-ps. Only NTFS is supported voor dedupe and the volume must be greater then 2 TB.

If smb still thinks ReFS dedup is possible on 2016, try to check by yourself. It is NOT. My testlab with latest 2016 proof: https://i.imgur.com/AZA7oau.png

Indeed, the answer is No (B), ReFS does not support dedup. However, 2019 does and some new update release of 2016 also. But in general I would say 2016 ReFS does not support dedup.

Answer is NO. Support for ReFS Dedup was added in a feature update for the Semi-Annual servicing channel. Windows Server 2016 LTSC does not support deduplication on ReFS volumes. If the question mentions semi-annual channel, then answer is YES
