Question is tricky, but despite “ReFs is not supported” the questions says: “you need to ensure that you can enable data deduplication of volume1”. It doesnt’ say “you need to activate data deduplication”. So probably the best way to know if you can use data deduplication is installing Data Deduplication feature and from there you will see that you are not capable to activate it.

In question 110 it asks: "On which two volumes can you enable data deduplication?" There the correct answer specifies the 2 NTFS volumes. Here the question asks that you need to ensure you can enable dedup. They both don't ask for activating dedup. I believe that A is correct. Tricky...

Dedup feature can be installed even if you didn't need to use it. On the other hand answer A doesn't mention to which filesystem you need to format the volume. Again... Tricky

Even if you install the feature you can't use it on volume1. How do you ensure that you can enable it on volume1 then? The only part missing from the answer "format the volume" is the ntfs fs. Any other ideas guys?

ReFS doesnt support dedupplicationn (2019 and 2016 version 1709 yes). After you install in Role Data Deduplication, you can use dedupplication on Volumen 1 because is ReFS. The way to use dedupplication on Volumen 1 is format Volume 1 like NTFS.

Agreed, I highly doubt they changed this exam's answers after the 1709 update, and therefore by the time this question was written, Data deup didn't support ReFS, only NTFS. I think the answer should be to format the volume.

Exam was last updated in March 2019 I think it's safe to assume they updated the questions at some point since version 1709 was released in 2017

I cannot find anything definitive regarding ReFS supporting Data Dedup. This is Microsoft's statement: "Assume the question refers to Server 2016 and ALL information necessary for the questions are given." From that I assume they will specifically point to Ver. 1709, etc., if required for the question. If they don't point out the specific version, that should mean Data Dedup ReFS is NOT supported.

A is correct. "Windows Server 2016" "You need to ENSURE that you can ENABLE deduplication of Volume1." = Install dedup and work. "ReFS-formatted Volume1" = NTFS

How can you enable deduplication if you havent installed ppropriate role? You dont have option. First you must install windows feature and then you have ability to enable deduplication. You must ensure role. Without role no deduplication possibility.

You have a server named Server1 that runs Windows Server 2016 and has the File and Storage Services server role installed. Only this role was installed. Not other. Because you must install a windows feature.Given answer is correct!

I'm starting to lean towards needing to install the dedup feature. I know it's a tough call between ReFS and the dedup feature. The question does refer to both dedup AND volume 1. It's a definite no-go without the dedup feature, but if we assume version 1709 or later then ReFS is ok. So balancing it all I would go for installing the dedup feature.

I would agree with A. Unless it states otherwise I would assume 2016 is pre-1709 version. So no ReFS support. Therefore you need to format the drive at NTFS before you can enable dedup.

There are a lot of question about ReFS that the valid answer is basically NTFS is not the correct format to deduplication...... But like you tell, version 1709 is now update to deduplication in ReFS format, so....... we are in problems.....

Well, as we need both the DeDuplication feature as well as a different filesystem, which one am I going to pick... Hmmmm, I don't know yet :) It does not state what option I should pick first, that would be the dedup feature, but if that's not the concern, I pick the format option. MS make up your mind, this is an unclear question
